New options were explored and some progress was made at a two-hour session between the Great Valley School Board Negotiating Team and representatives of the teachers’ union, the Great Valley Education Association, on June 29.
“We definitely took a step forward in the negotiations,” said Jay Levin, Board spokesperson for the contract negotiations. “We are guardedly optimistic about the progress we’ve made so far, but we still have significant differences that need to be addressed.”
The Board Team and union representatives, along with the state mediator, will reconvene for talks on July 19, August 2 and August 9 to work through the remaining issues. The goal is to reach an agreement for a new teachers’ contract prior to the start of the 2004-2005 school year, while addressing the issues of teacher salaries, skyrocketing benefits costs and time-related needs.
